Samsung 990 PRO SSD Review, Price & Features

Samsung 990 PRO SSD Review: Today, we’re talking about SSDs, in particular, the Samsung 990 Pro. So, this is a Samsung 990 Pro SSD, and it’s one of the fastest SSDs on the market right now, while also being reasonably priced. With this model having three different storage configurations – with a 1 TB, 2 TB, and a 4 TB option – and today I’ll be testing and installing the 2 TB option.

Samsung 990 PRO SSD Review

Which Samsung 990 Pro SSD is a PCIe 4.0 SSD, which means it has some really fast read and write speeds, with those numbers being up to 7,450 MB per second for the read speed and up to 6,900 MB per second for the write speed, which is really fast. So fast, it’s up to 40% faster for the read speeds and up to 55% faster for the write speeds when compared to Samsung’s last-generation SSD, the Samsung 980 Pro – the very SSD that I’ve been using for the past year now in my own system, which means you can boot up your system, load applications, and transfer files in a matter of seconds.

This also means you can tackle some heavy workloads without slowing down or wearing out. And by heavy workloads, I mean anything like gaming or video editing or whatever you might be doing, like animation or graphic design. So, let’s take apart my PC, which I unfortunately haven’t cleaned in a long time, and install this brand new Samsung 990 Pro to see how much of a beast this Samsung 990 Pro SSD actually is. And as you guys know, it’s very easy to install NVMe SSDs. All you have to do is find your M.2 slot on your motherboard, which might be underneath a heatsink, and then slide that SSD into that M.2 slot at a 45° angle and screw it back down in that. That’s it. Well, that’s it in terms of the physical installation; you also have to do some formatting so you can actually use the hard drive. But as you guys can tell, it’s really easy to get going with this SSD.

But as we all know, spec sheets are one thing and real-world testing is a whole another beast in itself. So let me show you some benchmarks and real-world test to showcase off how fast this Samsung 990 Pro SSD actually is. So the first test I’m going to be showing you guys is the OG Crystal Disk Mark test, which shows you the exact read and write speeds of your SSD at that moment by running a 1 GB file back and forth.

And after just a couple of minutes with the Crystal Disk Mark test, we can see that Samsung 990 Pro SSD clocked some insane speeds with the read speeds being 7,17 megabytes per second and the write speeds being 6,745 MB per second, which for me is the fastest speeds I’ve ever seen with an SSD. Now when we compare these test results to the Samsung 980 Pro, which ran the same exact test, we can see that the read speeds are faster on the 990 Pro SSD, but we can see a huge difference in terms of the write speed, which almost clocks in around 2,000 megabytes per second faster with the new 990 Pro.

Samsung 990 PRO SSD Game Test

Now when we look at other tests that I did with the Samsung 9990 Pro, I did a couple of game launch tests with it, and it was also insanely fast with the loading of Forza Horizon 5 in just 38 seconds and then Warzone, which is Call of Duty, of course, in just 42 seconds. So if you want to check out the ultimate SSD in terms of speeds, make sure to go check out the Samsung 990 Pro.
